64 Slice Cardiac CT Scanner

Using the 64 slice rapid acquisition of X-ray images of a beating heart, it has recently been possible to distinctly image the heart and its small blood vessels measuring up to 1 millimetre. Obstruction to the blood supply of the heart muscle, which results in chest pain and heart attacks, can be qualitatively assessed by the 64 slice CT scanning as an outpatient non-invasive procedure with zero patient discomfort and risk.

Echocardiographic Haemodynamic Laboratory

The heart has a complex multi-dimensional shape. A proper assessment of the function of its parts requires a multi-dimensional depiction of its structural and functional intricacies. This complex physical relationship can be studied using reflections from high frequency sound waves, called ultrasound, which can give information on blood and myocardial motion.

Vivid-7 Dimension

The Centre for Cardiothoracic & Cardiovascular Disorders has made a quantum leap in its capabilities to become the first in Africa to acquire Vivid-7 Dimension, adding it to the other five existing echocardiographic systems. Vivid-7 Dimension has the most advanced Tissue Doppler facilities (tissue velocity and strain imaging).

Coronary Care Unit

The unit is staffed by a specially trained physician and nurses capable of serving the sickest of patients. This 24 bed facility cares for the sickest of patients who may require ventilator care, invasive and non-invasive advanced life support such as emergency pacing (transvenous and trans-thoracic), intraaortic balloon pump support of failing heart, emergency lab, radiological services, bedside echocardiography, specialised nutritional and patient support services.

Heart Valve Surgery

Specialized surgery which is performed for the treatment of abnormalities like Mitral Regurgitation (MR) (a valvular heart disease which results in the abnormal leaking of blood through the mitral valve, from the left ventricle into the left atrium of the heart), or Aortic Stenosis (a condition where the aortic valve becomes narrower than normal, impeding the flow of blood) & Valve Replacement & Repair are routinely performed.

Interventional Cardiology

The Interventional Cardiology Centres are manned by senior Cardiologists trained in India and abroad. Coronary stenting is routine and performed by most of the interventional cardiologists and Patients with high risk and multi vessel involvement are also treated.

Primary angioplasty, an approach of opening blocked coronary artery during acute myocardial infarction, in place of thrombolysis is practised in suitable cases. Sub clavian, iliac, femoral and carotid artery balloon angioplasty and stenting are being performed. Vascular dissection and aneurysm repair are also conducted with covered stents.
